Dr. Caldicott spoke October 12, 2008 at First Congregational Church in Long Beach, California, on the urgent nature of the November presidential election, which she says will determine the fate of the earth. She outlines the three major threats facing humanity - global warming, nuclear war, and nuclear power - and provides a plan for solving each of these problems.

Studs Terkel, prize-winning author and radio broadcast personality was born Louis Terkel in New York on May 16, 1912. His father, Samuel, was a tailor and his mother, Anna (Finkel) was a seamstress. He had three brothers. Source www.studsterkel.org23:00 Conversation with Studs Terkel
Studs Terkel, award winning author and radio personality, 1912-2008.
In 1952 Terkel began working for WFMT, first with the "Studs Terkel Almanac" and the "Studs Terkel Show," primarily to play music. Interviewing came along by accident, and later became the award-winning, "The Studs Terkel Program." His first book, Giants of Jazz, was published in 1956. Ten years later his first book of oral history interviews, Division Street : America, came out. It was followed by a succession of oral history books on the 1930s Depression, World War Two, race relations, working, the American dream, and aging. Terkel won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for The Good War, which challenged the prevailing notion that, in contrast to the Vietnam War era, World War II was a time of unblemished national solidarity, goodwill, and unified purpose. In 1997 Terkel was elected a member of The American Academy of Arts and Letters. Two years later, he received the George Polk Career Award in 1999. In 2001 he published Will the Circle Be Unbroken: Reflections on Death, Rebirth, and Hunger for a Faith. He was also Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at the Chicago Historical Society.
